Pediatric faculty and trainee earn grants & honors

Dr. Mohammad Abu Arja, clinical fellow in pediatrics – hematology and oncology, has been awarded a St. Baldrick’s Foundation Fellows Grant for $195,000. This project will allow Abu Arja to further investigate a unique subset of killer CAR-T cells to fight brain tumors. Read more here.
Dr. Jennie Foster, associate professor of pediatrics – hematology and oncology, has been invited to serve as mentor for the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Robert A. Winn Clinical Investigator Leadership Award (CILA). CILA is a three-year career and leadership development program designed to provide clinical cancer researchers with advanced clinical trials knowledge, leadership skills, mentorship and sponsorship to succeed as independent clinical researchers, team members and leaders.
Dr. Lisa Kahalley, professor and associate chief of research for the psychology division in the Department of Pediatrics and director of neurobehavioral oncology at Texas Children’s Cancer Center, was elected as co-chair of the Pediatric Psycho-Oncology Network for the International Society of Paediatric Oncology. In this role, she will co-lead the psycho-oncology initiatives of the largest global multidisciplinary society entirely devoted to pediatric and adolescent cancers.
