VISITATION UPDATE: Effective May 9, the following visitation guidelines apply to Texas Children’s locations.

In addition to the visitor guidelines below, we ask that you do everything possible to decrease the spread of COVID-19 by continuing to limit your attendance at gatherings, wearing a mask, washing your hands and practicing social distancing in the community.

Our clinical and administrative leaders review COVID-19 positivity rates at Texas Children’s, across the Texas Medical Center and in the community daily, and if/when rates change, we will act quickly to reexamine and update our visitation guidelines, as needed.

Emergency Center (EC): Patients receiving care at our Emergency Center (EC) are allowed two parent or primary caregiver age 18 or older at any given time.

  • Families may select two caregivers who may be on site for the duration of the patient’s EC wait and stay, as needed.
  • Siblings, children or other visitors younger than 18 years of age will not be allowed. There is no childcare available at any of our locations.
  • Additionally, all patients and caregivers will be subject to screening (exposure and symptom questions and a temperature check) upon arrival.
  • Visitors who are sick will not be permitted to enter the Hospital; this rule is without exception.

Outpatient Pediatric (clinic) visitsOutpatient clinics, including Specialty Care locations, will allow two healthy visitors of any age.

  • There is no childcare available at any of our locations.
  • Additionally, all patients and caregivers will be subject to screening (exposure and symptom questions and a temperature check) upon arrival. Any ill caregiver may be asked to leave.

Pediatric Inpatient (hospital stay): COVID-19 NEGATIVE INPATIENT VISITATION GUIDELINES: Patients admitted from the Emergency Center (EC) into the hospital are allowed one or two parents or primary caregivers age 18 or older at any given time. One sibling of any age is allowed with adult visitors for up to 4-hours per day, unit specific restrictions apply.

  • Families may select up to four adult caregivers who can alternate their visitation for the duration of the patient’s hospitalization, as needed. Only one or two adult caregivers may be on site together at any given time.
  • One healthy sibling may visit for up to a single, consecutive four-hour duration per day. One or two adults from the selected alternate list must be present during sibling visits. Unit specific restrictions apply. No other visitors younger than 18 years of age will not be allowed. There is no childcare available at any of our locations.
  • Additionally, all patients and caregivers will be subject to screening (exposure and symptom questions and a temperature check) upon arrival.
  • Visitors who are sick will not be permitted to enter the Hospital; this rule is without exception.

Pediatric Inpatient (hospital stay): COVID-19 POSITIVE AND PUI INPATIENT VISITATION GUIDELINES: COVID+ patients admitted from the Emergency Center (EC) into the hospital are allowed one parent or primary caregiver age 18 or older at any given time. Patients under investigation (PUI) or surveillance are allowed two parents or primary caregivers under the same guidelines as COVID+ patients.

  • If patients under investigation (PUI) or surveillance test positive, they are COVID+ and allowed one visitor on site.
  • Families may select up to two caregivers who can alternate their visitation for the duration of the patient’s hospitalization.
  • The second caregiver is allowed to switch out with the primary caregiver every 48 hours OR may relieve the primary caregiver for a period of 4 hours every 48 hours.
  • Siblings, children or other visitors younger than 18 years of age will not be allowed. There is no childcare available at any of our locations.
  • Additionally, all patients and caregivers will be subject to screening (exposure and symptom questions and a temperature check) upon arrival.
  • Visitors who are sick will not be permitted to enter the Hospital; this rule is without exception.

Pediatric Surgery: Patients undergoing surgery are allowed one or two parents or primary caregivers age 18 or older at any given time.

  • Families may select up to two caregivers who may be on site together or can alternate their visitation for the duration of the patient’s procedure, as needed
  • Siblings, children or other visitors younger than 18 years of age will not be allowed. There is no childcare available at any of our locations.
  • Additionally, all patients and caregivers will be subject to screening (exposure and symptom questions and a temperature check) upon arrival
  • Visitors who are sick will not be permitted to enter the Hospital; this rule is without exception.

We encourage visitors, when appropriate, to remain closely connected to their loved ones through virtual means, including FaceTime or phone.
