Lumps under nipples

Lumps under the nipples or enlarged breast tissue may occur in both girls and boys. These are normal and are caused by hormones during pregnancy. They will usually go away within a few months. Contact your provider if you notice redness or if your baby seems to have pain in the nipple area.

Pointed bump at bottom of breastbone

Some newborns have a very noticeable, firm bump at the bottom of the breastbone. This is known as the xiphoid process of the sternum (breastbone) and is normal. It will become less noticeable over time.
