Dr. Ruben Rodriguez is a general and thoracic pediatric surgeon whose primary practice is at Texas Children’s Hospital – The Woodlands. His focus is on complex gastrointestinal surgery with a specific interest in minimally invasive approaches. He specializes in surgeries for Inflammatory Bowel Disease, pectus chest wall malformations, congenital diseases of the alimentary tract and other gastrointestinal pediatric diseases.
Dr. Rodriguez serves as the Associate Chief Surgical Officer, Medical Director of Pediatric Surgery and Trauma Medical Director for Texas Children’s Hospital the Woodlands. He leads several multidisciplinary programs including Surgical Director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Program in The Woodlands in partnership with Pediatric Gastroenterology and Assistant Surgical Director of the Adolescent Bariatric Surgery Program. In addition, Dr Rodriguez was instrumental in the development of the Advanced Practice Practitioner Program for surgery hospitalists.
He has a strong interest in improving the quality of surgical care and has represented the hospital as the senior surgical quality officer and surgeon champion of the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program for Pediatrics (ACS NSQIP-P).
In addition to being passionate about surgical quality, he is a strong advocate of patient and family centered care and is certified by the Academy of Communication in Healthcare as a clinician communication trainer. He is also fluent in Spanish.
