Desmond Fetal-Neonatal Neurodevelopmental Follow-up Clinics

Susannah Ferguson with newborn son Belsey Ferguson

Established in 1984 as a cooperative effort between the Meyer Center for Developmental Pediatrics and the Texas Children's Newborn Center, the Desmond Clinics provide long-term developmental monitoring for neonates and infants with high potential for developmental disabilities.

Transition from the NICU to home is a very exciting time for infants and families, but it can be an incredibly stressful time as well. Parents typically experience a significant amount of anxiety regarding how best to care for and nurture their little ones following discharge from the NICU. Families must shift their mindset from helping their infant survive to considering the myriad of supports and services that may be needed to help their infant thrive.

The Desmond Clinics have expanded to now include four major branches, each providing targeted and unique individualized evaluations and interventions based on a family’s needs and location.
