Bone Tumor Program

Bone Tumor Resources

Conditions We Treat

While not exhaustive, the following list includes conditions for which our program offers expert, specialized care.

Approaches

From the first evaluation through diagnosis, treatment, and recovery, our multidisciplinary team provides coordinated, thoughtful care for children with bone tumors.

Evaluation

Children with suspected or confirmed bone lesions receive their initial assessment in our multidisciplinary Musculoskeletal Tumor Clinic.

Diagnosis

Diagnosis starts with a review of key imaging, followed by a coordinated biopsy with interventional radiology and pathology.

Treatment

Treatment for most malignant bone tumors will involve chemotherapy, surgery and/or radiation therapy, and immunotherapy.

Recovery

Long‑term functional support is integral to the program.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your visit is designed differently from a typical oncology appointment. Instead of separate visits, cancer care and orthopedic oncologic expertise are integrated into one coordinated experience. During a single visit, you may meet with several specialists who work together to treat the tumor, manage treatment-related side effects, and address movement or functional concerns related to surgery.

Rehabilitation services, including physical therapy and prosthetic support (when needed), are built into your care, helping ensure that both treatment and recovery are thoughtfully addressed at each visit.

Even when a tumor is completely removed, tiny cancer cells (called micrometastases) can sometimes remain in the body. These cells are too small to see on scans or during surgery and can travel through the bloodstream. Chemotherapy helps destroy these hidden cells, lowering the risk that the cancer could return in the future.
