Bone Tumor Program

Musculoskeletal Tumor Clinic

The Musculoskeletal Tumor Clinic offers seamless and efficient care for pediatric bone tumor patients by bringing together specialists, including pediatric oncologists, orthopedic surgeons, and physical therapists, to provide a comprehensive and coordinated approach to diagnosis and treatment.

A Team Approach to Diagnosis and Care

At our clinic, a dedicated musculoskeletal tumor group meets frequently to review imaging, evaluate pathology and plan surgical interventions. This collaborative approach ensures that each patient receives a thorough and accurate diagnosis, followed by a well-coordinated treatment plan.

Interventional Radiology Biopsy│Diagnosis begins with a carefully coordinated biopsy performed by our team to ensure accuracy and optimal future treatment. If a biopsy is done elsewhere, we will still review the original material to ensure a comprehensive evaluation.

Surgical Options│Treatment may involve chemotherapy and surgery, including limb-salvage procedures and expandable prostheses for growing patients.

Post-Surgical Recovery and Growth Support

Post-surgical recovery is a critical component of our clinic. Our team includes a dedicated musculoskeletal physical therapist who works with patients both during hospitalization and in outpatient settings.

Because children continue to grow after treatment, our team provides long-term follow-up—often for years after the cancer has been treated—to address any functional limitations and support prosthetic needs as they arise. This ongoing support helps patients regain function and meet developmental milestones, which is especially important as chemotherapy can affect musculoskeletal growth.

Surveillance of Bone Tumors in Patients with Cancer Predisposition Syndromes

Our clinic also manages patients with cancer predisposition syndromes, providing early surveillance and longitudinal management of benign or potentially malignant lesions.

This proactive approach helps in early detection and treatment, improving long-term outcomes for these patients.
