HOUSTON - (July 1, 2013) - Today, Texas Children's Hospital is excited to announce the expansion of Texas Children's Hematology Center. Learn more about Texas Children's Hematology Center.

The new clinic space will allow the Hematology Center to offer disease-specific clinics to ensure continuity and patient-centered care for children with serious blood disorders. The new space will also provide care teams the ability to enhance and expand patient care in a comprehensive, multidisciplinary structure as patients will be able to see multiple specialists in one appointment and in one location.

"This clinic expansion will benefit patients and families by giving them a space of their very own where they may be seen by numerous specialists all in one setting," says Dr. Donald Mahoney, director of Texas Children's Hematology Center and professor of pediatric-hematology at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM). "Our goal is to continue to provide personalized, high-quality, family-centered care to children and adolescents with blood disorders in a more convenient and comfortable environment."

Through this expanded space, the multidisciplinary team of the Hematology Center will continue innovative clinical and laboratory research, with the aim to advance treatment and improve clinical outcomes for children with blood disorders. Together with academic partner BCM, the Hematology Center will also deliver world-class training and education for current and future leaders in the field of pediatric hematology.

"Providing comprehensive, compassionate care to patients and their families in a uniquely-designed setting specifically for children is a key priority in helping our team advance our global mission of offering state of the art treatment and ultimately developing a cure for pediatric hematological disorders," Mahoney adds.

Texas Children's Hematology Center offers innovative therapies for children and adolescents with all forms of blood disorders. The center specializes in the treatment of hemoglobin disorders including sickle cell disease, bleeding and clotting disorders - including specialized combined clinics for young women with bleeding disorders, rare genetic and acquired bone marrow failure disorders, immune hematology disorders - such as immune thrombocytopenia, and numerous varieties of anemias - including nutritional anemias, white blood cell disorders, and platelet disorders.
