Dr. Venee Tubman is a pediatric hematologist specializing in sickle cell disease. She is deeply committed to providing optimal care for children with sickle cell disease around the globe. Her interests include: clinical outcomes for children with sickle cell disease and understanding infections and immune function in sickle cell disease. Dr. Tubman is the Co-Director of the Sickle Cell Disease and Thalassemia Program and the Associate Director of Hematology for Global Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Excellence (HOPE) at Texas Children's Cancer and Hematology Center.
Dr. Tubman is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in pediatrics and pediatric hematology/oncology.

Sickle Cell Disease and Thalassemia
Dr. Tubman is a promising young investigator who has developed successful clinical and research partnerships in the USA and in sub-Saharan Africa. With this unique perspective on sickle cell disease, Dr. Tubman has created an innovative lens through which she pursues sickle cell disease research.
Dr. Tubman’s research laboratory is dedicated to addressing the effects of immune dysfunction and infections on children with sickle cell disease through translational research. Dr. Tubman is an adjunct member of the Texas Children’s William T. Schearer Center for Human Immunobiology. Dr. Tubman’s laboratory is supported with research funding from the NIH / NHLBI.
Globally, Dr. Tubman’s efforts have been focused on research and program development throughout the Global HOPE network, and primarily in Liberia and Tanzania. She co-chairs the Family and Education subcommittee of the American Society of Hematology’s Consortium for Newborn Screening in Africa.
