World Sickle Cell Day Celebration Highlights Community and Global Initiatives

The event featured interactive activities for children, including science-themed crafts, and presentations from leading experts Drs. Fasipe, Parsons and Tubman.
Speakers shared updates on local care advancements and global programs such as Global HOPE, which is expanding access to treatment across sub-Saharan Africa, and the Consortium on Newborn Screening in Africa (CONSA), aimed at improving early detection and care. Two patients also offered personal reflections, underscoring the importance of listening to lived experiences in shaping care.
The celebration highlighted the collaborative efforts of organizations like the Sickle Cell Research and Support Foundation and the SOS Parent & Guardian Support Group, reinforcing a shared commitment to improving outcomes for children and families affected by sickle cell disease.
