Once you’ve been to camp, you look at things in an entirely different light. It truly changes your life.”

Mission
Camp Pump It Up provides children, ages 8-12, living with congenital heart disease and acquired heart disease, the ability to attend an overnight weekend camp where their physical and emotional health are supported through peer-to-peer connection and a variety of engaging and enjoyable activities.
The Philosophy
Congenital heart disease (CHD) is the #1 birth defect in the world, with over 40,000 new babies diagnosed each year in the United States. Although surgical and medical advances have improved the survival for individuals with CHD over the last 50+ years, it has become critical to recognize and ensure the physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs of these children is supported. Many individuals with CHD do not have the opportunity to meet others with similar diagnoses and often feel alone. These individuals are often unable to participate in many activities that their peers participate in, due to the complex nature of their cardiac diagnoses and lack of comfort in full participation in typical age-appropriate activities. For these reasons, Camp Pump It Up provides a medically-safe environment for children to bond and build strong connections while engaging in positive, self-affirming, gratifying activities and experiences.
