The Soar Therapeutic Evaluation Program includes an interdisciplinary team of allied health professionals at the Woodlands Campus with specialized interest and training in neonatal and infant development and intervention. The Soar team works closely with medical specialists to ensure adequate evaluations and interventions are implemented in a timely fashion. Infants will undergo a comprehensive therapeutic and social evaluation with a physical therapist, occupational therapist, social worker, and clinical nurse coordinator.
The first evaluation occurs approximately 4-6 weeks after referral and typically lasts around 60-90 minutes. Based on this evaluation, the infant will be referred to initiate regular therapies, Early Childhood Intervention programs, and/or medical specialty evaluations such as neurodevelopmental pediatrics, neurology, and physical medicine and rehabilitation within the comprehensive Desmond Neurodevelopmental Follow-up Clinics. Direct access to lactation specialist, speech-language pathologists, and registered dieticians will be provided based on the family’s individual needs.
Evaluations include standardized and validated assessment tools utilized by therapists to assess overall developmental motor achievements and needs. These evaluations conclude with a family counseling session, provision of a Home Exercise Plan, as well as individual treatment and intervention recommendations.
