Ensuring patient safety and improving outcomes are at the heart of everything we do. Texas Children’s Cancer & Hematology team members received the February Shamrock Award . Congrats to Shelby Boone, Caslyn Hope, John ‘Jake’ Lott, Matt Musick, Tim Porea, Sharon Staton and Xiaofan ‘Fan Fan’ Shen.

Presented for excellence in advancing patient safety, the award honored the team’s quick, collaborative and successful launch of updates to early warning scores used in our hematology-oncology inpatient units. The updated tool was launched in December 2024 and is already enhancing team communication and patient evaluation.

The Shamrock Award was created by Texas Children’s Hospital’s Chief Safety Officer, Dr. Joan Shook, to recognize outstanding patient safety efforts. The monthly award, presented in collaboration with the Quality and Safety department, recognizes individuals, teams or departments that have made exceptional contributions.
