Personal Statement
Shelby Boone is the director of the advanced practice providers at Texas Children's Cancer and Hematology Center.
She also oversees patient flow in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) in the Cancer and Hematology Center for patients who require procedures under sedation or anesthesia, such as bone marrow aspirates and spinal taps.
Prior to joining the Cancer and Hematology Center, she was a member of the Critical Care team at Texas Children's Hospital, where she had the unique opportunity to deliver high-quality care to incredibly ill patients. Our multidisciplinary team includes physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, patient care assistants, and a multitude of ancillary services—and she learns from each of them on a daily basis. She feels strongly about continual learning and always strives for the best and most evidenced-based approach to patient care, both clinically and academically.
She is an advocate of providing a family-centered care approach by encouraging each member of the family to have their voice as a member of the team heard. She believes in goal-centered care, regardless of whether it is curative or non-curative—both aspects of care are equally important in her mind. She is passionate about critically ill patients and hopes to make the worst days a little brighter for any patient, mother, father, sister or brother.
She is board certified by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) as a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in Acute Care (CPNP-AC).
