Ways to Give Donating Items

Donating Items to Texas Children’s

In-kind donations are greatly appreciated if they meet our health and safety standards. To ensure a safe and healing environment, all in-kind donations must meet certain criteria. See guidelines below.

Toy and Safety Guidelines

All items must be new and in original packaging. We cannot accept:

  • Gift wrapped items
  • Sports equipment, bicycles or wagons
  • Glass items
  • Religious themed items
  • Items that have sequins, glitter, paste-on wiggle eyes, craft beads, etc.
  • Food items such as candy, beverages, etc.
  • Toy weapons such as Nerf guns, toy swords, etc.
  • Scented items
  • Items with “Get well soon” messages
  • Any items imprinted with advertising, contact information or suggestions to buy more

Frequent Asked Questions About Donating Items

Our patients enjoy new Legos for all ages, dolls, puzzles, Playdoh, mini bubble packs and Hot Wheels. Coloring books, crayons, glue sticks and seasonal craft kits are always excellent donations. We accept pajamas and undergarments of all sizes, blankets, pillowcases and laundry pods. For a full list of recommendations, please contact Volunteer Services for their Donation Guidelines.

We accept new, travel-sized toiletries. Shampoo/conditioner, soap/shower gel, lotion, individual packs of tissues and individual-sized hand sanitizers are always welcome. For a full list of recommendations, please contact Volunteer Services for their Donation Guidelines.

We ask that you call 832-824-2257 at least 15 minutes ahead when dropping off donations at the Medical Center Volunteer Services Office. This will help ensure that a staff member is able and ready to receive your donation.

No, individuals and groups are not permitted to hand-deliver gifts to patients and families directly.

Yes, any running car, truck, RV or boat can be donated. Donating your vehicle to Texas Children’s is convenient and easy and may qualify you for a charitable income tax deduction. Call 866-628-CARS (866-626-2277) or complete the online donation form at vehiclesforcharity.org/charities and we will take care of the rest!
