Get to know Xin Xu, PhD, MS, M(ASCP)
Dr. Xin Xu is a formally-trained microbiologist with extensive experience in translational research. His postdoctoral research focused on development of an innovative salmonella-based cancer vaccine platform that is currently being submitted as the subject of an Investigational New Drug (IND) application with the goal of clinical evaluation.
His pre-clinical work showed that the vaccine induces potent anti-tumor activity and long-term protective immune memory in mice (Xu et al., Cancer Research). These studies have been awarded with highly competitive grants from The Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT), the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and the V Foundation and led to IND submission for phase 1 clinical trial of a salmonella-based cancer vaccine in patients with multiple myeloma.
Within the Metelitsa group, he has conducted correlative studies on patient samples from our recently initiated first-in-human CAR NKT cell clinical trial in children with neuroblastoma (NCT03294954). He is also exploring translational methods to improve the persistence and efficacy of CAR NKT immunotherapy.
