Personal Statement
Terry Armstrong is a certified pediatric nurse practitioner specializing in primary care (CPNP-PC) and certified pediatric oncology nurse (CPON) at Texas Children’s Cancer Center where she sees patients in the outpatient oncology clinic. She has been a dedicated nurse with over 25 years of experience and has hematology-oncology experience in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings. As an inpatient staff nurse at Texas Children’s Cancer Center, Terry provides complex nursing care for a spectrum of patients and families from newly-diagnosed patients to end-of-life care.
She feels privileged to work with patients and families who are struggling through the diagnosis and treatment of leukemia for their child. Her ability to provide education to these families in both English and Spanish helps to ensure that they understand the disease process and how to best take care of their child.
As an instructor for Baylor College of Medicine she also has the opportunity to educate nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, MD fellows, and physicians. She has provided individual instruction to help others gain and develop procedural skills (with lumbar punctures and bone marrow procedures). She has oriented new faculty and staff to the leukemia team and helped develop curriculum for new employees who are learning about leukemia. Her goal is to continue growing as a provider and educator to the benefit of those she works with and to assist patients and families as they navigate the treatment process.
She is board certified by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) as a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Primary Care (CPNP-PC) and by the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) as a Certified Pediatric Oncology Nurse (CPON). She is certified by the Texas State Board of Nursing.
