Dr. Sarah Kappa attended Emory University School of Medicine and completed her general pediatrics residency training at Children's National Health Center in Washington, DC where she completed a fourth year as a pediatric chief resident. She completed her pediatric hematology-oncology fellowship training at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital in 2023. Dr. Kappa joined the Cancer and Hematology Center as a K12 scholar and is a part of the solid tumor team.
While clinically Dr. Kappa takes care of pediatric patients with all different types of solid tumors, her research aims to identify new combinations of therapies for the treatment of relapsed of recurrent osteosarcoma. Furthermore, she hopes to identify mechanisms of therapeutic resistance and ways to overcome them. Dr. Kappa is board certified in pediatrics by the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Her interest in hematology/oncology started during her year as a research assistant in the pathology lab at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and this desire was only reinforced during medical school and residency. She enjoys all aspects of hematology/oncology care, from managing critically ill children to routine outpatient appointments. She also has a particular interest in non-malignant hematology but is keeping her mind open and looks forward to all aspects of hematology/oncology patient care at Texas Children’s Hospital.
