Get to know Betul Yilmaz Furtun, MD
I completed my residency training in pediatrics at Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis Children's Hospital, pediatric cardiology fellowship at Columbia University, New York Presbyterian Hospital, and advanced non-invasive imaging fellowship in fetal and pediatric cardiology at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. Prior to residency, I spent almost four years on basic science research in genetics at University of Chicago Medical Center.
I joined Texas Children's Hospital in 2015. I trained both in pediatric and fetal cardiology and specialize in pediatric and fetal echocardiography, intraoperative assessment during congenital cardiac surgery and fetal surgery. My clinical and research focus relates to cardiac imaging by echocardiography and fetal echocardiography. I utilize my experience in these areas to study how we can use non-invasive imaging modalities for investigating normal and abnormal cardiac function in patients with congenital heart disease and in fetuses with cardiac compromise. My primary research interests focus on fetal cardiovascular assessment and cardiac dysfunction in patients with congenital heart disease, in fetuses with congenital abnormalities, and in multiple gestation pregnancies complicated by twin-twin transfusion syndrome.
