Dr. Priya Raj is a board-certified pediatric gastroenterologist whose practice is defined by a deep commitment to family-centered care, innovative program development, and building stronger bridges between specialty care and the community. She serves as Director of Community Medicine for the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at Texas Children’s Hospital, leading a growing portfolio of initiatives that improve access, enhance care coordination, and bring exceptional subspecialty GI care closer to the communities’ families call home.
As Director of the Celiac Disease Program, Dr. Raj has spearheaded a same-day endoscopy pathway for patients with suspected celiac disease — streamlining diagnosis and reducing delays in care. She also champions the food insecurity screening initiative in partnership with the Houston Food Bank, integrating social support into clinical practice and connecting families with vital community resources as part of routine care. In addition, she is an active member of the multidisciplinary Aerodigestive Program, collaborating closely with pulmonology, otolaryngology, speech-language pathology, and nutrition specialists to provide coordinated care for children with complex airway, feeding, and digestive needs.
Beyond her special focus on celiac disease and aerodigestive disorders, Dr. Raj’s clinical expertise spans a broad range of gastrointestinal conditions, including cow’s milk protein allergy, eosinophilic GI disorders, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), inflammatory bowel disease, H. pylori gastritis, enteral and parenteral nutrition, feeding tube management and complications, failure to thrive, chronic abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, and others. Her work also focuses on advancing quality improvement across clinical programs, using data-driven approaches to standardize care, close gaps, and improve outcomes for children with digestive diseases. She is deeply committed to creating programs that not only address complex medical needs but also support the day-to-day realities of children and families navigating chronic digestive conditions.
Central to Dr. Raj’s approach is a philosophy of collaboration and partnership. She works closely with families, referring pediatricians, and other specialists to develop evidence-based care plans tailored to each child’s unique circumstances — ensuring that families feel supported, informed, and empowered at every stage of their care journey.
