Following completion of his medical education in Mexico at Universidad de Monterrey, Mexico, Dr. Silva-Carmona joined the Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital community where he completed his pediatrics residency, served as a chief resident, and then completed his pediatric critical care fellowship in 2011. After serving as critical care faculty at Washington University in St. Louis, he returned to Baylor and Texas Children’s to undertake his pediatric pulmonology fellowship and joined the Baylor faculty in 2016.
Dr. Silva-Carmona is a passionate clinician-educator, driven by his unique educational and professional journey and a profound commitment to improving the lives of children with rare lung diseases. Through his clinical leadership of the Rare Lung Disease Program at Texas Children’s Hospital, he has advanced a model of care that is both highly specialized and deeply compassionate, providing individualized support for children navigating complex and often poorly understood pulmonary conditions. Dr. Silva-Carmona has been deeply engaged in training medical students, residents and fellows, in whom he fosters intellectual curiosity, critical thinking and empathy, ensuring that the next generation of pediatric pulmonologists is well-equipped to meet the clinical and human complexities of this work.
Dr. Silva-Carmona brings to his leadership role a clear vision grounded in clinical excellence, collaborative research and a steadfast commitment to patients, families and learners. Under his leadership, the division continues to thrive, innovate and serve as a national leader in pediatric pulmonology.
