The Consultation and Liaison service works with children admitted to the inpatient floors at Texas Children’s Hospital after a medical team requests a psychological consultation. Depending on findings of the evaluation, the psychologist often becomes a crucial part of a child’s medical team, working with the patient to improve adjustment to diagnosis, treatment, or hospitalization.
This could include behavior, thoughts, or feelings associated with the diagnosis, treatment, or hospitalization. The psychologist works collaboratively with the patient’s family and medical team, which includes communication with physicians, nurses, social workers, child life specialists, and ancillary providers. Upon a patient’s discharge, the psychologist is often able to see patients for follow-up on an outpatient basis.
Medical staff can refer patients for inpatient psychological evaluation directly through our electronic medical record.
