We are proud to share that Dr. Anna Maria Mandalakas, M.D., MSEpi, Ph.D., Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and Director of the Global Tuberculosis Program at Baylor College of Medicine, has been selected as a recipient of the 2025 Michael E. DeBakey, M.D. Excellence in Research Award.
Presented annually by Baylor College of Medicine, the DeBakey Awards honor faculty members whose work represents the most significant scientific contributions to clinical or basic biomedical research over the previous three years. Dr. Mandalakas’ selection for this prestigious recognition underscores her long-standing dedication to improving child health through groundbreaking research in pediatric infectious diseases, particularly tuberculosis.
As part of the recognition, Dr. Mandalakas will receive a DeBakey medallion and will be invited to deliver an overview of her award-winning research during a ceremony celebrating this year’s recipients. Her work continues to shape health outcomes for children globally, bridging science and implementation in resource-limited settings in close partnership with established Texas Children’s Global Health Network foundations across multiple countries.
