During Nurses Week, the Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Center celebrated this year’s nursing award recipients, recognizing outstanding individuals who make a difference for children and families. These nurses bring both skill and humanity to their work through clinical expertise and meaningful connections with patients and families.

2026 Nursing Award Honorees

  • Angel S.M.A.R.T. Award | Debbie Butuyan, RN
     For consistent leadership and a strong commitment to excellence while serving as a role model for others. This award honors a nurse who exemplifies being S.M.A.R.T—Strong, Motivated, an Advocate, Reliable and Respectful, and a Tenured, Tireless leader.
  • Best Buddy Award | Jasmine Sanchez, RN, and Patty Zuniga, RN
     For fostering collaboration and always stepping in to support teammates, helping create a work environment where teamwork feels seamless and meaningful.
  • LOL Lifesaver Award | Alex Anderson, RN, and Robert Holland, RN
     For combining clinical expertise with positivity and humor, creating moments of encouragement for both patients and colleagues.
  • Open Arms Award | Carolina Fuentes, RN, and Annajose Morales, RN
    For creating welcoming and supportive environments where team members feel comfortable asking questions, developing skills and growing professionally.
  • Rookie of the Year Award | Peyton Richardson, RN, and Myrah Ritch, RN
     For their quick demonstration of dedication, enthusiasm and a strong commitment to patient care.
  • Sunshine in Scrubs Award | Maggie Taylor, RN, and ElleAnna Trevino, RN
     For bringing positivity and warmth to every shift, helping brighten the experience for patients, families and coworkers.
  • Super Star Award | Carolina Fuentes, RN
    For exceptional performance and for going above and beyond in support of patients, families and the care team. This award honors a nurse who shows Texas Children’s H.E.A.R.T. values—Humility, Excellence, Accountability, Respect and Trust.

These recognitions reflect the wide range of contributions nurses make each day—from clinical excellence and patient advocacy to mentorship and team support. 

Their efforts play an essential role in creating a care environment focused on compassion, collaboration and high-quality outcomes for patients and families.
