Overview
The large clinical service and state-of-the-art research programs at Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Center and Baylor College of Medicine provide an ideal environment for training in pediatric hematology-oncology. Fellows work closely with faculty who are leaders in their leaders in their clinical and research areas of expertise to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to advance the field through clinical innovation and scientific discovery.
The initial 13 months of fellowship are dedicated to obtaining comprehensive clinical skills in pediatric hematology-oncology. With disease-specific teams in both the inpatient and outpatient clinical training environments, fellows are supervised by faculty who have expertise in the corresponding disease areas. There is graduated clinical responsibility given to fellows as their knowledge and experience increase.
During their first year, fellows will select a clinical or laboratory based research experience to pursue in their second and third years. The fellow and research mentor will then identify appropriate members for the fellow’s individualized Scholarship Oversight Committee. Fellows have the opportunity to pursue an additional fourth year of training in their area of clinical interest.
