Get to know Rachel Marek, MD
Dr. Rachel Marek received her medical degree from the University of Michigan. She completed her residency at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles where she worked as a community pediatric hospitalist at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for ten years, acting as medical director for eight years as well as department chair for two years. In July 2016, she transitioned to Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands where she served as the medical director of the pediatric hospitalist program for the next seven years. In July 2023, Dr. Marek became the Chief Medical Officer at Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands where she hopes to continue to foster a culture of collaboration, teamwork, collegiality and communication, keeping patients and families at the center of our mission.
Dr. Marek has established a robust faculty development program at Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands, offering monthly opportunities and yearly half-day symposiums to help advance the academic careers of faculty working in the community. She also established the Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands Awards Committee which coaches and encourages faculty to apply for the Baylor College of Medicine Faculty Awards for Excellence in Patient Care. This committee also celebrates the outstanding work of the staff at Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands through the Annual Values Awards which recognizes those who exemplify Texas Children’s core values: amplify unity, embrace freedom, lead tirelessly and live compassionately.
Dr. Marek was involved with community pediatric hospitalists nationally as a co-chair of the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Hospital Medicine Community Hospital Sub-Committee from April 2012 – July 2016. She also served on the national leadership team on pediatric hospital medicine sub-board certification. She is an elected member of the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Hospital Medicine Executive Committee and is currently chair-elect. She participated on the planning committee for the national Pediatric Hospital Medicine Conference from 2019-2022 which has 1500+ attendees each summer. Dr. Marek has spoken at many regional and national conferences and focuses her non-clinical time on advancing community pediatric hospital medicine and leadership development.
