Get to know Patrick J. O'Donnell, MD
Dr. O’Donnell grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and medicine has brought him all over the world. He has finally completed his journey to warm weather, with stops in Wisconsin, Illinois and Kentucky for education and research opportunities and now in Austin as a general pediatrician. His medical training also brought him to three continents for global health, where these lower-resource settings taught him the meaning of the term “general” pediatrician and readied him for any situation in clinic. He is passionate about the care of immigrant and refugee populations which allows him to use his global health and tropical medicine background.
Outside of work, you might find Dr. Pat on a bike or a basketball court, playing guitar, watching NBA games, or exploring the music and food scene of his new favorite city with his partner Hannah.
Personal Statement
I love being a pediatrician because I get to both learn and teach every day. Medicine requires us to continually learn about new cutting-edge discoveries worldwide and ever-changing best practices. All doctors love to learn – that’s why we signed up for a decade of school. What sets apart pediatrics though is the relationships I build along the way. Not only can I help guide my patients to become happy, healthy adults, but I also get to support and educate their families so that we work as a team. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that I get to laugh a lot at work while doing all this. I feel so lucky to have the best job in the world thanks to the families who let me be a part of theirs.
