Personal Statement
Anna C. Shafer, MMSc, PA-C is a Physician Assistant with the Surgical Hospitalist team at Texas Children’s Hospitals West Campus. She joined the Surgical Hospitalist Team at Texas Children’s Hospital in 2015. As a member of the West Campus Surgical Hospitalist team, she works with the General Surgery, Urology, Plastic Surgery, Otolaryngology Orthopedic Surgery, Surgical Gynecology and Trauma departments.
Anna cares for patients in the emergency room setting, pre-operatively and post-operatively on the inpatient floors, and first assists in the operating room. Her clinical interests are laceration repairs, post-operative care of adenotonsillectomies, and bedside procedures. She also enjoys educating patients and families on post-operative care, disease processes and prevention.
In addition to patient care, Anna is the West Campus Surgery APP Community Outreach Coordinator, the student coordinator for Physician Assistant and Nurse Practitioner students rotating with the West Campus Surgical Hospitalist team, and the coordinator of the shadowing experience for students interested in pursuing healthcare careers. She is passionate about investing in the education of future health care professionals.
Anna received her undergraduate degree in Theology from Concordia University Nebraska and then proceeded to obtain a Masters of Medical Science from the Physician Associate program at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. She is certified through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and medically licensed through the Texas Medical Board.
