Get to know Andrea Dean, MD
Andrea Dean, MD, is a pediatric hospitalist at Texas Children’s Hospital and an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine. She is an accomplished clinician-educator whose work centers on residency education, faculty development, and advancing compassionate, relationship-based care for hospitalized children.
Dr. Dean directs pediatric hospital medicine resident education and co-directs Pediatric Grand Rounds at Texas Children’s Hospital, where she is leading a major redesign of the program to strengthen engagement and foster professional growth. Her educational scholarship focuses on resident autonomy, supervisory preparedness, and the development of curricula that teach the irreplaceably human aspects of medicine, while also recognizing the opportunities that emerging technologies bring to clinical education and patient care.
Her ongoing mission is to cultivate learning environments that promote clinical excellence, curiosity, and human connection in pediatric care.
Personal Statement
My philosophy of care reflects the same principles that guide my teaching: clarity, empathy, and intellectual rigor. I aim to provide care that is clinically precise, efficient, and responsive to the needs of each child and family. I prioritize communication that meets families where they are: honest, direct, and attuned to their level of understanding. I value collaboration and transparency, believing that families are essential members of the care team. I use technology and emerging tools, including artificial intelligence, to enhance safety and decision-making, but I view human connection, professionalism, and sound clinical judgment as irreplaceable elements of excellent pediatric care.
