Get to know Anandini S. Rao, MD, MSc
Dr. Anandini Rao grew up in both California and Texas since her early childhood, with a special connection to Texas that has continued throughout her professional life. She received her medical degree from Texas A&M College of Medicine, completed her pediatric residency at Phoenix Children’s, and earned a fellowship in pediatric hematology/oncology and stem cell transplant at UT Southwestern/Children’s Health. Dr. Rao's interest in pediatric hematology-oncology began during a medical school rotation and grew through mentorship, clinical experiences, and research opportunities during residency.
During fellowship, Dr. Rao developed particular interests in leukemia and lymphoma, childhood cancer survivorship, and medical education. Dr. Rao’s fellowship research focused on childhood cancer survivorship, while her broader scholarly work has included publications examining PRES and hypertension in patients with sickle cell disease undergoing stem cell transplant, as well as fertility potential among stem cell transplant survivors. Dr. Rao also pursued advanced training in simulation-based medical education and has strengthened her interest in medical education through clinical teaching and mentorship.
As a pediatric hematology-oncology Hospitalist at Texas Children’s Hospital, Dr. Rao looks forward to bringing together her interests in inpatient care, and medical education while providing thoughtful, acompassionate care to children and their families.
