Get to know Ajibike Lapite, MD, MPHTM
A number of personal experiences made clear to Dr. Ajibike Lapite that geography dictates patient outcomes and that patient advocacy and clinical care are inextricable. Dr. Lapite has since pursued a career at the intersection of hematology/oncology and global health which informed her undergraduate and graduate school coursework. She received an undergraduate degree in molecular biology & global health and health policy at Princeton University. She subsequently completed a four-year combined MD/MPHTM (Master’s in public health and Tropical Medicine) at Tulane University. Her MPHTM capstone project on reducing cervical cancer burden in Nigeria ultimately earned the Outstanding Student in Tropical Medicine MPHTM-Clinical Program Award.
Dr. Lapite completed her pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). As a resident, she co-lead CHOP's health policy research team and completed AAP funded work that was presented at national conferences and published. Prior to fellowship, she spent one year at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and Medical Center as a bone marrow transplant staff physician; this experience significantly shaped her research mission to optimize outcomes after curative therapy for children with blood disorders.
She cares for children with a wide-range of hematology disorders and studies clonal hematopoiesis, a risk factor for poor outcomes after hematopoietic stem cell transplant. She aims to translate her research to improve care for children with blood disorders in Houston and worldwide.
