About

Sarah Ammons is an orthopedic and women’s health physical therapist at Texas Children's Hospital Pavilion for Women. Dr. Ammons is involved in mentoring and curriculum development for the Texas Children's Sports Physical Therapy Residency Program and serves on faculty with Optim Manual Therapy Fellowship.

Dr. Ammons earned her Masters of Science in Physical Therapy and Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) from Texas Women’s University. She completed her post-professional residency in orthopedic physical therapy at Harris Health System in Houston and a manual therapy fellowship through the Manual Therapy Institute. Additionally, she is a Board Certified Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy (OCS) through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. Prior to her graduate education, she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre and Dance and Bachelor of Science in Zoology from University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Ammons has served as faculty for the Harris Health Orthopedic and Neurologic Residency programs and developed the Women’s Health physical therapy program at Harris Health System. She has guest lectured at Texas Woman's University and served locally for the Southeastern District of the TPTA.  She was honored by the Texas Consortium of Physical Therapy Inc., with the Dorn Long Outstanding Clinical Educator Award in 2011.

Her clinical expertise includes management of acute and chronic orthopedic conditions, pelvic floor dysfunction, lower extremity problems and dance medicine. She has a special interest in the intersection of orthopedics and women’s health including exercise during and post pregnancy, incontinence in athletes and the correlation between hip pain and pelvic floor issues. Her practice philosophy integrates evidence based manual therapy, exercise and pain science with a biopsychosocial approach to treat the whole patient.

Prior to her career as a physical therapist, Sarah danced professionally with the Kathy Dunn Hamrick Dance Company and taught dance to children and adolescents for many years. In her spare time, she enjoys dancing, yoga, cycling and running as well as spending time with her husband and two children.
