Welcome Letter from Dr. Donald Williams (Will) Parsons
Texas Children's Cancer and Hematology Center, affiliated with Baylor College of Medicine (BCM), is world-renowned for its clinical care, research and education. Situated in the world's largest medical complex, we provide top-tier, individualized, family-centered care to children and adolescents with cancer and blood disorders. Our faculty see over 4,200 new patients annually at Texas Children's Hospital, which is one of the world’s largest pediatric hospitals and consistently ranked among the top 10 by U.S. News & World Report.
By taking a multidisciplinary approach to care and closely collaborating across our various subspecialties – many of which are also ranked among the best – we are able to tackle the most aggressive cancers and complex cases. Our services also extend to underserved areas like the Rio Grande Valley and bring care closer to home for patients in Houston and Austin.
Baylor College of Medicine plays a crucial role in our mission. As one of the top medical schools in the U.S., BCM is home to cutting-edge research and clinical expertise. Our BCM faculty are at the forefront of pediatric oncology research, ensuring our patients receive the most advanced treatments. Notably, Texas Children’s Hospital houses the pediatric program of BCM’s NCI-designated cancer program, The Dan L. Duncan Cancer Center.
Research and clinical trials are at the heart of our mission. With 250 active trials and over 40 laboratories, we lead in precision medicine, cellular immunotherapy, cancer survivorship and addressing health disparities. Our faculty play key roles in national and international clinical trial consortia, including the NIH-funded Children's Oncology Group (COG) and Pediatric Brain Tumor Consortium (PBTC).
Education is also a pillar of our mission. We have one of the largest and most renowned pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship training programs in the country. We hold the country’s only pediatric NCI-funded K12 faculty training grant focused on translational research in pediatric oncology.
Recognizing that effective treatments extend beyond medical interventions, we prioritize the emotional and social wellbeing of children. Our patients and families have access to social workers, psychologists, Child Life experts, school coordinators, art and music therapists and a dedicated therapy dog.
Our support of patients across their entire journey, combined with our excellence in care, research, and education, makes us a standout institution. From groundbreaking research to compassionate care, from training future leaders to ensuring accessibility for all, we exemplify excellence in every aspect of our mission. We invite you to explore our website to read inspiring stories from our patients, learn about our world-leading research, and the comprehensive care we provide to children and their families.
Sincerely,
