Personal Statement
As the inaugural Division Chief of Palliative Care at Texas Children’s Hospital, I see the fundamental importance of treating distressing symptoms experienced by children and parents, understanding how parents, patients and care providers make medical decisions as disease changes, finding the best ways in which to care for patients and families holistically, and seeking data on how the integration of palliative care impacts the larger health care system. I have committed to growing the field of pediatric palliative care through training of specialists who have helped shape the landscape of the field in the United States. Collaboration in research to help improve aspects of care provided to this vulnerable population is paramount.
