Cancer and Hematology Center

Why choose Texas Children's?

Mission

To provide personalized, high-quality, family-centered care to children, adolescents and young adults with cancer and blood disorders; to discover and implement innovative laboratory research and treatment advances aimed at curing and preventing childhood cancer and blood disorders; and to provide world-class training and education for current and future leaders in the field.

And so we fight

At Texas Children’s Cancer Center, we are proud to say we help children fight and defeat cancer every single day. When we opened in 1954, only one in every 10 children with cancer survived. We’ve made considerable progress in improving outcomes for children with cancer since then. Today, more than 80 percent of children who are diagnosed with cancer will successfully fight the battle and be cured. However, the war with cancer will not be over until we have a cure for each and every child who is impacted by this disease.

The good news is, tremendous progress has been made. With powerful new weapons in our arsenal, and incredible breakthroughs in technology, immunology and cancer genetics, every day we uncover more information about what causes cancer and how to beat it, because losing even one child to cancer is still one too many.

Among the Best Children's Cancer Centers in the Nation

As one of the largest pediatric cancer and hematology centers in the United States, we provide medical treatment for patients with childhood cancer and childhood blood disorders. Our nationally-acclaimed children's clinic, along with our research and drug development programs, is considered by U.S. News & World Report to be among the best children's hospitals for cancer. Our world-renowned staff of nearly 200 faculty and over 1,000 employees have pioneered many of the now standard protocols for treating and curing pediatric cancer and blood disorders. In addition, we provide a full range of pediatric subspecialty care available in-house 24 hours a day and treat all pediatric cancer and blood disorders, even the rarest disorders. Over 4,220 new patients are diagnosed each year, making us one of the largest pediatric cancer and hematology programs in the United States. Over the past ten years, our patients have traveled from 50 states and 56 countries to receive care at our Center. We know that the diagnosis of cancer or a blood disorder is traumatic for both the child and the family. As a leader in family-centered care, Texas Children's Cancer and Hematology Center provides personalized, comprehensive services that address both the physical and emotional aspects of the disease.

Working as a Team to Cure Kids

Patients benefit from the combined talents and expertise of some of the best physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, pharmacists, and child life specialists. Patients are seen by the same doctors, nurses, and social workers on an ongoing basis to provide a sense of trust, safety, and comfort. Children and teens receive some of the best care in the world for their disease because they are monitored by an entire team, rather than a single doctor, allowing the patient the best chance to receive comprehensive cancer control.

Experts in Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders

As specialists in the treatment of all pediatric cancer and pediatric blood disorders, and as experts in childhood cancer and childhood blood disorder research, we have developed treatment programs to cure children with the most common and the most rare forms of all childhood cancer and blood diseases.
