Texas Children’s Pediatrics Earns Prestigious Joy in Medicine Distinction from American Medical Association

News Release

The award recognizes national leaders in enhancing physician well-being and professional fulfillment.

HOUSTON (October 15, 2024) Texas Children’s Pediatrics is thrilled to announce it has earned national recognition from the American Medical Association (AMA) as a Joy in Medicine™ health organization.

The prestigious AMA distinction is granted to organizations that meet the rigorous criteria of the Joy in Medicine Health System Recognition Program. The honor acknowledges national leaders who are prioritizing proven methods to enhance physician well-being and professional fulfillment.

“We are incredibly proud to be recognized as a Joy in Medicine health organization,” said Dan Gollins, President, Texas Children’s Pediatrics. “At Texas Children’s, we know that caring for our patients begins with caring for our team, and we are absolutely committed to the well-being and professional fulfillment of our physicians. They work tirelessly to provide life-changing care to the children and families who need us most, and our entire organization is invested in finding solutions to reduce burnout and to provide our physicians with the support they deserve.”

Texas Children’s Pediatrics directly faced the challenge of preventing and reducing physician burnout among its more than 350 pediatricians across 66 locations and recognized that ongoing efforts are essential to ensure that doctors continue to receive the resources and support they need to thrive and achieve national health goals.

“We aim to ensure physicians are heard and represented in discussions with leadership, highlighting the challenges we face in our daily roles. Our goal is to advocate for fellow physicians, and at Texas Children’s Pediatrics, we have fostered a strong sense of trust between medical professionals and leadership,” said Dr. Sapna Singh, Chief Medical Officer, Texas Children’s Pediatrics. “We have introduced effective processes that facilitate communication and collaboration, allowing both groups to work together more seamlessly and enhance understanding and cooperation.”

Since its inception in 2019, the AMA Joy in Medicine Health System Recognition Program has recognized more than 100 organizations across the country. In 2024, 62 health systems earned recognition by documenting efforts to reduce system-level drivers of work-related burnout and by demonstrating competencies in commitment, assessment, leadership, and efficiency of practice environment, teamwork and support. The honor is valid for two years, and the 2024 organizations are joining a strong cohort of currently recognized organizations from the 2023 program.
