She completed her residency training at Texas Children’s Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine under the mentorship of Ralph D. Feigin, M.D. whom she credits with much of her success in pediatrics. Additionally, she attained a fellowship in Global Pediatric Leadership at Harvard Medical School in 2018.

Dr. Yen has been the Medical Director of Texas Children’s Urgent Care since 2014. He earned his bachelor of arts from the University of Texas at Austin and his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine. He also completed his pediatric residency at Texas Children’s Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine in 2000 under the mentorship of Dr. Feigin and Martin Lorin, M.D. Following his residency, he served as pediatric faculty with the Texas Children’s Hospital Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine for more than 18 years, and functioned in several administrative leadership roles during that time including as the Director of the General Pediatricians and Advanced Practice Providers in Emergency Medicine. For the past 10 years, he focused on developing a network of quality urgent care clinics in the Greater Houston and Austin areas to provide life-changing care to the patients who need it most.

This news comes after Stanley W. Spinner, M.D., announced his retirement as Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Texas Children’s Pediatrics after 40 years of service. Dr. Spinner has served the Greater Houston community for more than four decades, including as Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Texas Children’s Pediatrics and Texas Children’s Urgent Care for the past 13 years. Dr. Spinner will be assisting Dr. Singh and Dr. Yen until his official retirement on January 18th.

“It was the honor of a lifetime to serve Texas Children’s Pediatrics and Texas Children’s Urgent Care,” said Dr. Spinner. “Together with my amazingly talented colleagues, we have sought to ensure that all children have access to high-quality health care regardless of their financial status, and I couldn’t be more proud of the physicians, clinical staff and administrators who have dedicated their careers to making Texas Children’s Pediatrics and Texas Children’s Urgent Care the best primary and urgent care networks in the country. They will be in great hands with Dr. Sapna Singh and Dr. Terry Yen.”

“I am thrilled to begin serving as the new Chief Medical Officer of Texas Children’s Pediatrics,” said Dr. Singh. “As a passionate advocate for children — and the health care workers who care for them — I plan to continue Dr. Spinner’s important work of improving health care access and quality for all children in Texas, while also improving physician engagement and wellness. I am grateful to Dr. Spinner for his many years of leadership and service, and I am honored to carry it forward.”

“I am so proud to serve as the Chief Medical Officer of Texas Children’s Urgent Care,” said Dr. Yen. “Texas Children’s has the best urgent care network in the state. When a child is sick, especially at night or on the weekends, it can be difficult for families to quickly identify the best place to seek health care. Texas Children’s Urgent Care is committed to providing families with life-changing care as quickly and conveniently as possible, offering the right care in the right place at the right time.”

“Drs. Spinner, Singh and Yen are all gifted pediatricians and experienced leaders who have been tremendous assets to Texas Children’s for many years,” said Dan Gollins, President of Texas Children’s Pediatrics. “Our top priority is to provide high-quality care for the children and families who need us most, and Dr. Singh and Dr. Yen have the expertise and experience to help us fulfill that mission. We are so excited to welcome them as new Chief Medical Officers.”

“Under Dr. Spinner’s visionary leadership, Texas Children’s Pediatrics has grown into the largest and most prestigious pediatric primary care network in the nation, with more than 70 locations and 300 board-certified pediatricians on staff,” said Debra F. Sukin, Ph.D., President & CEO of Texas Children’s. “Dr. Spinner’s role was critical in guiding our growing network of practices while ensuring the best possible care for our patients. He is a pillar of the Houston community, and we are proud to honor his legacy. All of us at Texas Children’s thank him for his many years of service. We are excited to usher in a new era of leadership under Dr. Sapna Singh and Dr. Terry Yen.”
