Investigators at the Autism Program understand the importance of autism research and actively pursue a wide range of studies focused on autism spectrum disorder (ASD). There is frequent collaboration among researchers both within Texas Children's Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine and with other renowned centers across the country. This includes cooperation on several network studies aimed at understanding the causes and course of ASD.
Stay Informed About Research Opportunities
Our Autism Program has a variety of research studies underway throughout the year, with opportunities for individuals of different ages and backgrounds to participate. Because new projects begin regularly, there are several ways for families to stay informed about upcoming studies:
Follow us on Facebook: Stay up to date on the latest research news, study opportunities, and program updates by following the Kochel Lab on Facebook at Join Research PALS (Participant Awareness List): Research PALSis a registry for families who would like to be notified about new research studies for which they or their child may be eligible.
Subscribe to the Meyer Center newsletter: The Meyer Center regularly shares research study announcements, flyers, and other updates through its newsletter.
Visit Texas Children's Clinical Trials Portal or Baylor College of Medicine's Clinical Trials page: Active research studies at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital are frequently posted on to these sites, making it a helpful resource for learning about current enrollment opportunities.
We encourage families who are interested in research to sign up through one or more of these channels so they can learn about new opportunities as they become available.
Simons Foundation Powering Autism Research for Knowledge (SPARK)
If you or your child has a diagnosis of autism or an educational classification of autism, Texas Children's Hospital Autism Program invites you to learn more about SPARK, an online research study sponsored by the Simons Foundation Autism Research Initiative. The mission of SPARK is clear: speed up research and advance understanding of autism by creating the nation’s largest autism study.
Joining SPARK is simple – register online, provide a DNA sample via a saliva collection kit in the comfort of your own home and earn up to $50 for your efforts.
Register in person at the Texas Children's Hospital Autism Program by contacting asdresearch@bcm.edu or visit www.SPARKforAutism.org/TexasChildrens. Together, we can help spark a better future for all individuals and families affected by autism.
The Autism Program provides various levels of support to investigators and encourages multidisciplinary collaboration in the study of ASD and related disorders. If you are interested in working with experts at the Autism Program to facilitate your study, please contact Dr. Robin Kochel by email or phone at 832-824-3390.
