The Volunteer Services Department at Texas Children's is devoted to cultivating a robust and dynamic program that prioritizes support, compassion, and exceptional service for the diverse community of children, women, and families we serve. Our commitment extends beyond these families to encompass the dedicated staff of Texas Children's, ensuring that everyone experiences a positive environment. Based on hospital needs, we strive to offer enriching and inspiring volunteer opportunities that engage individuals in meaningful ways, allowing them to make a significant impact while developing their skills and experiences.
What we look for in our adult volunteers:
Positive attitude and body language
Ability to create an environment respectful of differences
Ability to provide exceptional customer service
Respectful in words and actions
Commitment:
Minimum 6 – month commitment
One 3-hour shift on the same day each week
Adult Volunteer Requirements:
Must be over 18 and not enrolled in high school
Attend a virtual Information Session
Complete the volunteer application
Complete in-person interview
Health Clearance (including two doses of MMR and Varicella, proof of TDap within the last 10 years, TB test, and seasonal flu vaccine)
Criminal background check clearance

We invite you to attend our Volunteer Information Session to learn more about volunteer requirements and available placements. The information session is an hour-long Microsoft Teams meeting and the first step to becoming a volunteer.
We are excited to announce the return of the Summer Junior Program for summer 2025! This engaging, onsite 6-week volunteer program will provide approximately 30 high school students ages 15 – 17 with valuable experience supporting patients, families, and staff in a hospital setting.
The Texas Medical Center Summer Junior Volunteer Program Dates are:
Friday, June 6th – Thursday, July 17th, 2025
Please note that we do NOT offer shadowing or observing experiences. Summer Juniors will participate in meaningful volunteer assignments and educational opportunities.
A strong time commitment is required to gain the full benefits of the Summer Junior Program. If you have camp(s) or travel plans that conflict with the Summer Junior Program please consider applying in the future when you can fully commit.
Summer Junior Program requirements differ by campus. Applicants should to one campus that best aligns with their needs and availability.

2025 Summer Junior Program Expectations
Attend mandatory in-person orientation and training on Friday, June 6.
Commit to participating in the entire program.
Shifts are Monday-Thursday from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
Junior volunteers are allowed up to four (4) shift absences (or 2 full days).
Obtain medical clearance through TCH Employee Health
2025 Applicant Requirements
Must be at least 15 years of age by June 1, 2025, and enrolled in high school for the 2025-2026 school year
Summer Junior application must be completed by the teen applicant (with their email and phone number)
Applicant must submit a 1-minute video (see 2025 Program Packet for details)
Complete the application and all requirements by February 14th
Volunteers will be notified of acceptance on March 7th
Selected candidates must submit health requirements by March 24th
To assess the applicant's readiness to serve as a Junior Volunteer at Texas Children's, it is encouraged that all communication be conducted directly by the applicant.
The Summer Junior Program offers an exciting opportunity, but it is important to know that it is very competitive, with potentially more applicants than available spots. Not every applicant will be accepted, so we encourage all teens to approach their application thoughtfully and carefully. Your attention to detail can make a difference.
