Volunteer at West Campus


Adult Volunteer Program

The Volunteer Services Department at Texas Children's Hospital is devoted to cultivating a robust and dynamic program that prioritizes support, compassion, and exceptional service for the diverse community of children and families we serve. Our commitment extends beyond these families to encompass the dedicated staff of Texas Children's Hospital, ensuring that everyone experiences a positive environment. Based on hospital needs, we strive to offer enriching and inspiring volunteer opportunities that engage individuals in meaningful ways, allowing them to make a significant impact while developing their skills and experiences.

Short–term volunteer experiences, shadowing, internships, and observation opportunities are not offered through Volunteer Services. If you are interested in pursuing an internship, observation, or shadowing opportunity, please reach out directly to the department you wish to work with. They will be able to provide you with specific information about available positions, application procedures, and any requirements you may need to fulfill.

What we look for in our volunteers: 

  • Positive attitude and body language
  • Ability to create an environment respectful of differences
  • Ability to provide exceptional customer service
  • Respectful in words and actions

Commitment:

  • Minimum 6-month commitment
  • 3-hour shift on the same day each week
  • Please note that all volunteer assignments take place Monday through Friday between 8 AM – 5:00 PM. The West Campus location does NOT offer placements on evenings/weekends

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years old and graduated from High School
  • Complete the volunteer application
  • Complete in-person group interview
  • Health Clearance (including Two doses of MMR and Varicella, proof of TDap within the last 10 years, TB test, and seasonal flu vaccine)
  • Criminal background check clearance

Summer Junior Program

The Summer Junior Volunteer Program at Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus offers teen volunteers a unique opportunity to gain experience supporting patients, families, and staff in a hospital setting.

While we do NOT offer opportunities for Junior Volunteers to shadow medical staff and/or gain clinical exposure, we offer many exciting and rewarding volunteer assignments and educational opportunities.

Please note--- If you are attending summer school, participating in summer camp(s), and/or leaving town for an extended summer vacation, please consider applying for the Summer Junior Program in the future when you are available to volunteer each week consistently.

Campus Selection

Program requirements vary by campus. Applicants may apply to one campus only, based on availability and personal needs.

Applicants who apply to multiple campuses will not be considered.

2026 TCH West Campus Program Requirements:

  • Commit to participating in the full program. Summer Junior Volunteer Program Dates:

Monday, June 8th – Thursday, July 2nd

  • Complete 100 hours of service
  • Shifts are Monday-Thursday from 8:00 am-4:00 pm
    • Weekend and evening shifts are NOT available
  • You will have to attend mandatory training on Friday, June 5th
  • Teen volunteers are allowed 2 absences during the program session
  • Teen volunteers are encouraged to schedule doctors’ appointments and other commitments on Fridays

Application Process

Round 1: Complete the full application by February 23rd 

Round 2: Selected Candidates will be notified by March 7th to attend an in-person group interview on Saturday, March 28th. *Additional information will be provided to those applicants directly

Round 3: Selected Candidates for Individual Interview *Selected candidates will need to submit proof of meeting current health requirements

2026 Application Requirements

  • Must be at least 15 years of age by June 1, 2026
  • Must be a sophomore, junior, or senior for the 2026-2027 school year
  • Completed online application by the teen applicant
    • The application must have the teen applicant’s email address and phone number listed
    • Must submit one Recommendation Form
      • Letters from family members will not be considered
    • Must provide a copy of the most recent report card, with a B average or above
    • Incomplete applications will not be considered

A Competitive Opportunity

The Summer Junior Program is highly competitive, with more applicants than available positions, so not all applicants will be selected. Teens who approach their applications with care, creativity, and attention to detail can stand out and make a meaningful impact.

To help determine the applicant’s readiness to participate as a Junior Volunteer at Texas Children’s Hospital, all communication is encouraged to be handled by the applicant directly.
