At Texas Children's Hospital, we are committed to our community and strive to connect families with information to help keep children healthy and safe. We understand the effects of the COVID-19 outbreak has rippled into homes and in some cases, has caused food shortages. If you are experiencing food and meal shortage, here is a list of places where you can get a meal or food items in the Houston area.

Houston Food Bank: houstonfoodbank.org/covid19. This site will help you locate a Houston Food Bank partner near you.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP): https://www.yourtexasbenefits.com/Learn/Home Visit this site to apply for SNAP benefits. Existing SNAP accounts are currently being auto-renewed due to coronavirus.

Kids Meals: kidsmealsinc.org/corona-help/. This program will provide free meals for kids under 6 years of age.

Food Bank Locator: Text “Food” to 855-308-2282 to find a food pantry near you.

School Meal Finder: https://schoolmealfinder.hoonuit.com. This Meal Finder is an online map you can search to find schools in your area that are providing meals.

You can also visit each school district’s website for more information about their student meal programs and any specific changes they have made to their policies. Most schools will provide meals to anyone under 18, even if they are not a current student. Some require the child to be present to receive a meal, others do not.

As we continue to respond to the ever-changing nature of this outbreak, we encourage you to bookmark and return to this blog for the most up to date information about where to get meals and food items.
