Overview
This intensive, interactive course provides extensive training in the diagnosis and management of fetal brain conditions through expert-led lectures, live scanning, and simulation practice. Topics include:
- Use of ultrasound to diagnose posterior fossa anomalies, midline abnormalities, hypoxic ischemic and hemorrhagic damage to the fetal brain, cortical abnormalities, intracranial cysts, among other fetal brain conditions
- Identification and management of congenital infections from the perspective of prenatal and postnatal specialists
- Complementary value of fetal MRI to assess different brain conditions
- Current in utero gene therapies and the emerging future direction in fetal brain intervention
- Multidisciplinary postnatal management of fetal brain abnormalities
Taught by Baylor college of Medicine, Texas Children's Hospital, and international experts in maternal-fetal medicine, pediatric neurology, pediatric neurosurgery, pediatric infectious disease, and pediatric radiology, neonatology, and genetics.
Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:
- Apply evidence-based fetal neurosonography techniques for the evaluation of fetal brain development and abnormalities
- Interpret ultrasound and fetal MRI findings to improve diagnostic accuracy for fetal neurologic disorders.
- Integrate genetic, infectious disease, and multidisciplinary care considerations into the management of fetal brain abnormalities.
- Utilize current evidence to support prognostic counseling, clinical decision-making, and coordinated prenatal and postnatal care.
Registration
Friday will include topics dedicated to postnatal management and evaluation of conditions detected in utero and more focused for postnatal specialists.
Saturday and Sunday will be dedicated to in utero detection, diagnosis and management of fetal brain with live scans and hands on simulation session for fetal ultrasound.
Registration for Friday only or the full course will be available.
