Personal Statement
Thomas “TJ” Swain is a senior athletic trainer with the Sports Medicine Program at Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands where he assists providers in the Sports Medicine clinic, through doing things such as getting initial histories on patients, home exercise education, application of DME, and communication with the local high school athletic trainers in returning athletes back to sport.
Following graduation from college, he served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for Tarleton State University, working as the baseball athletic trainer, where he was a part of the Lonestar Conference Tournament-winning team in 2018.
Before joining Texas Children's Hospital, TJ worked as an athletic trainer at the secondary school level in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.
From Mr. Swain:
I have a passion for helping guide athletes through their return to sport after an injury and enjoy sharing their excitement when they can return to doing what they love.
My wife is a professor and researcher at Sam Houston State University, where she is a part of faculty of the Athletic Training Program. Outside of work, I am a competitive powerlifter, and enjoy going on walks and trying all kinds of different foods.
