Get to know Joseph Y. Allen, MD, FAAP
Dr. Allen joined the Baylor College of Medicine Department of Pediatrics as an Assistant Professor in Emergency Medicine in 2004. He received numerous awards in teaching and education and was promoted in 2013 to Associate Professor, non-tenure track. He has consistently performed at a very high level as measured by yearly reports of efficiency, billing, and quality of care metrics and was recognized for these efforts as an inaugural recipient of the Baylor College of Medicine Rising Star Award for Clinical Excellence in 2014.
From 2010-2020, he was medical director for pediatric emergency medicine in two of Texas Children’s hospitals in their initial opening phases: from 2010-2015 for the Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus Emergency Center and then from 2016-2020 at Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands Emergency Center. Each center now sees over 42,000 patients per year.
Since shifting back to the clinical focus in 2020 he has continued efforts to always deliver state-of-the-art quality of care to all children. He has co-written and updated multiple evidence-based TCH practice guidelines and continued teaching to a breadth of learners. He has also continued to publish in the field of pediatric emergency medicine.
Personal Statement
I have always strived to deliver state of the art quality of care to all children I treat. I continue to receive favorable comments on my skill and professionalism from colleagues, families and peers. I have co-written multiple evidence-based practice guidelines in system-wide use within Texas Children’s Hospital. I continue teaching to a breadth of learners and continue publishing to advance care in pediatric emergency medicine. I have also remained a highly productive clinician as well, helping bring Texas Children’s emergency services to an increasingly higher number of patients.
