Get to know Indranil (Neel) Kushare, MD
Dr. Kushare is a board-certified, dual-fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon who specializes in treating sports injuries in young patients. As an Associate Professor in Orthopedic Surgery, he has garnered numerous accolades including the prestigious STAR Award for Excellence in patient care (2024), NRF Teaching Award (2023), TCH Excellence in Surgery Award (2020) and voted as a Top Doctor by Houstonia magazine.
His advanced training began after completing his orthopedic residency and included fellowships at highly renowned hospitals including Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C. and Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He followed this with an orthopedic sports fellowship at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore which involved providing care to several professional sports teams, including the Baltimore Ravens, Washington Nationals and Washington Wizards.
Dr. Kushare is a passionate advocate of evidence-based practice (EBP), with a strong research background with over 50 scientific journal publications to his name. His expertise is sought after nationally and internationally, having been invited to speak at numerous universities and conferences about pediatric sports injuries. He is actively involved in many national scientific societies including Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA) and is the current chair of the Tibial Spine Fracture (TSF) research interest group at the Pediatric Research in Sports Medicine Society (PRiSM).
Dr. Kushare has extensive experience treating athletes at all levels, from high school to professional, including Team USA Olympic and Paralympic athletes. Dr. Kushare has a special interest in ACL injuries, patella (knee cap) instability and cartilage problems known as OCD as well as shoulder, elbow and ankle injuries. He is also highly skilled in managing fractures in young patients and believes in a collaborative approach to care, ensuring that patients and their families are fully involved in the decision-making process.
