Personal Statement
Dr. Kushare is a dual fellowship-trained pediatric orthopedic surgeon who specializes in treating sports injuries in young patients. He was promoted to Associate Professor in Orthopedic Surgery in 2021 after receiving Texas Children’s ‘In-Chief’ Award (2021), Texas Children’s Excellence in Surgery Award (2020) and voted as a Top Doctor by Houstonia magazine (2020).
Following his orthopedic residency, Dr. Kushare completed fellowship training at highly renowned hospitals including Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Children’s National Hospital, Washington D.C. and Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Columbus, Ohio. He followed this with an orthopedic sports fellowship at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital, Baltimore which involved providing care to several professional sports teams, including the Baltimore Ravens, the Washington Nationals and the Washington Wizards). He is a proponent of evidence-based practice (EBP), with a strong research background reflected in his authoring of over 40 scientific journal publications and over 50 presentations at national & international conferences related to pediatric sports injuries. Dr. Kushare is involved in many national scientific societies and is the current chair of the Tibial Spine Fracture (TSF) research interest group at the Pediatric Research in Sports Medicine Society (PRiSM).
With experience covering high school, college and professional teams (football, baseball, basketball, soccer, lacrosse) Dr. Kushare has a special interest in ACL injuries, patella (knee cap) instability and cartilage problems (OCD) as well as shoulder, elbow and ankle injuries. He has high proficiency in the management of fractures in young patients and believes in shared decision making with patients and their families.
