Amy has been a practicing ASHA-certified speech-language pathologist since 2010. Her varied experience in various in-person, virtual, and travel settings includes public and religious elementary and high schools, skilled nursing facilities, hospital-affiliated pediatric clinics with a high Spanish-speaking population, private clinics, and private practice.
She has a passion for treating teenagers and young adults with cognitive-linguistic and social communication challenges impacted by acquired brain injury, autism spectrum disorder, non-verbal learning disability, developmental trauma, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.
Strongly committed to incorporating hands-on and real-world activities into treatment plans, she endeavors to empower her patients to capitalize upon their communicative and cognitive-linguistic strengths to fully access and actively participate in social, religious, community, and vocational activities.
Amy has integrated animal-assisted therapy into her past practice, obtained advanced training in feeding treatment and myofunctional disorders, and participated in a speech-language therapy Spanish immersion program in Costa Rica.
Personal Statement
I am devoted to enlisting the support and involvement of the family in the child's treatment plan and frequently design activities to simulate real-world situations.
Having spent the majority of my life in Florida, I moved to the Houston area in March 2024. In my spare time, I enjoy volunteering with animal handling, traveling, training for races and sprint triathlons, attending church activities, and spending time with family. I own an Australian desert lizard named Professor Lexicon Skinker and have had the privilege of volunteering in animal sanctuaries and a zoo in Costa Rica, Belize, and Peru.
