About

Dr. Teruya has extensive experience and expertise in patients with bleeding and thrombosis, pheresis procedures, and blood component therapy. He was an adult hematologist in Japan, and trained in Clinical Pathology and Transfusion Medicine/Coagulation at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School in Boston. He joined Texas Children's Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine in 2001. He is very enthusiastic about teaching students, residents, fellows, and many others. He has won numerous teaching awards at Massachuesttes General Hospital, Texas Children's Hospital, and Baylor College of Medicine such as Best Clinical Teacher, Funniest Professor, and Excellent in Teaching by Non-Pediatric Faculty Member. He has been selected as Best Doctors in America since 2009. Working with fellows and residents at Texas Children's Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine is a large component to Dr. Teruya's research with some sponsored projects. Dr. Teruya is always looking for new projects and research topics that would benefit the Division of Transfusion Medicine & Coagulation.

  • Thrombotic profile of inflammatory bowel disease
  • Coagulation activation and acquired von Willebrand disease in ECMO
  • Whole blood coagulation technology ? PFA, TEG, ROTEM
  • Lupus anticoagulant
  • PIVKA-II as sensitive and specific marker for vitamin K deficiency
  • Affect of acute phase reactants, antithrombin, and platelet factor 4 on PTT and anti-Fxa assay
