Diagnosis and treatment of rheumatic diseases in children and adolescents

Physicians in the Rheumatology Clinic see children with a range of rheumatic diseases. Conditions most frequently treated in the clinic include:

  • Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (formerly known as juvenile rheumatoid arthritis)
  • Juvenile systemic lupus erythematosus and lupus spectrum disorders
  • Dermatomyositis and polymyositis
  • Scleroderma (localized and systemic)
  • Kawasaki's disease, HSP, GPA, Systemic vasculitis
  • Rheumatic fever and Reactive arthritides
  • Auto inflammatory disorders (e.g. Periodic fever syndrome, Chronic multifocal osteomyelitis)
  • Inflammatory brain disorders
  • Behcets disease, sarcoidosis & miscellaneous rheumatic diseases  
  • Pain amplification syndrome, Chronic pain syndrome, Fibromyalgia

Our multidisciplinary team includes 11 pediatric rheumatologists and six fellows, a nurse practitioner, nurses, nutritionist, social worker, child life specialist, clinical pharmacist, practice administrator and a patient care manager. 

Our clinic is in close collaboration with the Texas Children's Hospital infusion centers, musculoskeletal radiology, and recently, the Texas Children's Hospital specialty pharmacy.  

Our Team

Texas Children's Hospital Rheumatology Physicians & Providers are members of the Childhood Arthritis & Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA) and the Pediatric Rheumatology Collaborative Study Group (PRCSG).
