The section has an active ACGME-accredited fellowship program, with two fellows per year dedicated to pediatric rheumatology training. The rheumatology fellowship program is led by Dr. Andrea Ramirez and Associate Director, Dr. Maria Pereira. Some of our recent graduates have completed master level degrees as part of their fellowship training. Most graduates in the last decade have continued to practice in Texas. Of note, 4 separate pediatric rheumatology centers have been started by former Texas Children’s Rheumatology fellows includes, University of Texas at Houston, Cook Children’s Hospital, Driscoll Children’s Hospital and University of Florida College of Medicine, Jacksonville.
Our section is involved in national pediatric rheumatology mentoring initiatives and institutional efforts to enrich the educational experiences of pediatric subspecialty trainees. We are committed to providing high quality and personalized patient care, ACGME-accredited medical training and education, and clinical and basic science research in pediatric rheumatology.
