A typical motion analysis appointment has two components: first, a physical therapist will perform a thorough physical exam tailored to the purpose of the visit; then the lab staff will use motion capture technology to record and analyze your child’s walking patterns.
This data collection process involves placing reflective markers or other similar sensors on specific points on the body. This allows the team to analyze the mechanics of your movement.
The results from the motion analysis are integrated with the results of the physical exam to develop a treatment plan that fits your individual needs.
Please follow these guidelines in preparing for your child’s appointment:
Arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your appointment time
Have your child wear loose-fitting, comfortable, athletic-type clothing for the evaluation with physical therapy
Bring tight-fitting shorts for the gait analysis
Bring any braces/foot orthotics
Bring any walking aids (such as crutches, walkers or canes)
Wear closed-toe shoes used for walking
The entire visit will take 2-3 hours. Bring a water bottle and familiar items such as toys or books, if desired
